SPECTRA: The Rainbow in Art / May 3rd - June 4th, 2023

SPECTRA

The Rainbow in Art

Wednesday - Sunday 1-5pm and by appointment

The exhibit brings together artists from various geographical regions, art backgrounds, and modes of creating who have used the visual form of the rainbow either as subject, symbol, or reference. Santa Fe Jeweler Dezbah Stumpff, of DezbahMaker, will present her “Silver Rainbow Earrings” alongside Arkansas painter Zina Al-Shukri’s “Electromagnetic Mud”, a spiritualist painting made with oil and walnut ink on paper that explores alchemical existentialism through bold color and symbolic abstraction.

Of the 16 artists presented in the show, no two have approached representation of the rainbow in the same way. Indeed, the title of the show can refer to the spectrum of colors in the rainbow and also the spectrum of artist interpretations and relationships with the commonly observed, and often mythologized, optical phenomenon.
