Chelsea Rushton: AWAKENING / November 1st - 26th, 2023

Opening Reception:  Friday, November 3rd, 5-8pm

AWAKENING presents 13 new works on paper by Canadian artist Chelsea Rushton. The exhibit features surreal and tender watercolor and ink paintings that use symbolism and color to explore physical and energetic understandings of body, spirit, and self. Rushton, whose art practice is informed by meditation, ritual, and spiritual practice; was inspired to make the works after enduring a period of illness that brought on a transformative altered state of consciousness she identifies as a Kundalini event.

Chelsea Rushton received her MFA in Visual Art from the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. She has exhibited throughout Canada as well as in New York City, NY and Oakland,CA in the United States. Rushton has received support for her work from the British Columbia Arts Council, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the University of Calgary’s Centre for Research in the Fine Arts, and Calgary Arts Development. In addition to her art practice, she is certified over 500 hours as a yoga teacher, and is a practicing Death Doula.
