James O'Connell, "Sagittarius", wet plate collodion on aluminum, 8"x10", 2024

Electra Gallery is proud to present James O’Connell in The Stars Dream Darkly, his first solo photography exhibition. For this monumental debut, O’Connell continues to push the boundaries of his favorite historical photographic methods with hauntingly poetic wet plate collodion interpretations of the astrological signs. O’Connell’s new pieces are rooted in his signature tintype portraiture and result from countless hours of studio sessions transforming local Santa Fe models into dreamlike mythological figures shrouded in shadow. Twelve provocative original plates, and limited edition archival prints, display a sumptuous range of tones, from velvety black to silvery white, drawing in the viewers gaze and speaking to O’Connell’s mastery and dedication to his light-based craft.

Breaking: Help Electra Gallery artist Jessica Wassil evacuate Asheville:

Hurricane Helene has devastated Asheville, NC where Jessica Wassil makes her home with her partner and collaborator Mads Ludvigson. We are relieved that they are safe but heartbroken to learn of the loss and uncertainty they now face. To help with the expenses of their evacuation and time in limbo, we are offering all artworks by Jessica Wassil at 40% off (the full gallery commission), we are also offering prints of select artworks for a limited time. This is a great time to add to your collection with an outstanding artwork at a fantastic price, with all proceeds going directly to an artist in need. If you'd like to donate without purchasing an artwork, visit the GoFundMe page we've set up to collect donations to support Jessica and Mads. Thank you for all of the ways you support this community and the artists that bring it alive. - Electra Gallery
