Jessica Wassil: HEAD SPACE / August 5 - 31

Electra Gallery is proud to present HEAD SPACE a brand new body of work by Asheville, North Carolina based painter Jessica Wassil. For her first solo gallery exhibition, Wassil has summoned the same cast of characters that have been peering out at her fans for years from the walls of cafés, record stores, and the bottoms of coffee cups. Her surreal and brightly colored watercolor compositions reveal gardens of ennui as the eyes of unamused figures coyly meet the viewer’s gaze, often with wine glass in hand. Wassil calls the pieces “dreamscapes” and hopes they will provide needed “headspace in a world caught in claustrophobic moments of social media and non stop noise.”

Jessica Wassil (Asheville, NC) is a prolific self-taught painter and illustrator working primarily in watercolor and with ceramics glazes. She is one half of the whimsical hand-built ceramics duo MAWA Ceramics, and has been a featured CanvasRebel creator, a featured performer at Mortified, and her project “YelpYak”, where she drew poignant and hilarious illustrations for absurd Yelp reviews, was featured in NYLON Magazine.
